Hedy Lamarr, Scientist and Actress (1914-2000)

Known for her beauty, Lamarr was also an inventor who patented a device for radio spectrum signal-hopping, which is essential for today’s wi-fi, CDMA, Bluetooth, and GPS.  Born in Austria, she was one of the leading actresses in Hollywood.  Yet her Patent #2,292,387, a device for radio guidance of torpedos, during World War II, utilized signal-hopping.  Think of her when you use your mobile phone or laptop.
